Day trip to Lake Nakuru National Park
Day trip to Lake Nakuru National Park, a salty lake lying on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. This park was famous only as a bird sanctuary especially the thousands of flamingos nesting along the shores. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink. The number of flamingos on the lake varies with water and food conditions and the best vantage point is from Baboon Cliff.
However, now it is home to the white rhino, and Rothschild giraffe, besides the herbivores like buck and antelope. Leopard can also be seen in this park. The vegetation is of the drier type. The flat- topped acacia and the candelabra cactus are a feature of the landscape. Beyond the lake, the park offers great views of forests and waterfalls.
Early morning depart Nairobi city for Lake Nakuru passing through the wall of the Great Rift Valley. It is 160 kilometres from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park, however about 60 kilometres the tour arrives at the Mau escarpment. There is a ‘look out’ from where one can view this natural wonder. Here the road descends into the Great Rift Valley. On the descent one is surprised to see just off the road, a small Italian style chapel. It was built by the Italian prisoners of war who constructed this fine road. Lunch on own account which will be followed by an afternoon game drive. Depart in the evening for Nairobi. You will be dropped off your preferred destination within City of Nairobi.
