Day 02: Maasai Mara National Reserve

On this day you will enjoy a full day early morning and afternoon game viewing and exploration in this part of the Northern Serengeti Ecosystem where the great wildebeest migration takes place. Months before the actual migration the herds ‘assemble’ in Serengeti in readiness for the crossing into the Masai Mara. The plain is literally covered with these animals. Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are common place. The migration now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World takes place from end of June to beginning October.

There are two species of fish breeding in this fresh water lake, black bass, and tilapia. The Tilapias are ‘mouth breeders’. Day 8: Tsavo West- South Coast

After breakfast, the tour continues to Mombasa, which is reached by lunchtime (lunch on own). The most interesting feature of this route to Mombasa is its vegetation. The baobab tree with its large swollen trunk. It is one to the largest around the trunk and longest living trees in the world. It is believed to live up to 2000 years, ranking with the sequoias of America. It is found only in Kenya and a few grow in South Africa. Very few leaves are found on the tree, Dr. Livingstone referred to it as “a carrot planted upside down”. The baobab is noted as the most unique in the world. It has many uses: most parts of the tree are used for food. Soap, glue, rubber fibers and medicine come from this tree (In African Trees by Dorothy and Bob Hargreaves, 1972). The other interesting trees are the types of acacias one sees along the road. You will be transferred to your beach resort. Spend the rest of the day at leisure at the beach enjoying the sun.
